A little bit of the ‘why’ behind what I do and an opportunity to get to know me a little better… I wanted to introduce myself and welcome you to my website and blog, but keep it short & sweet.
Over the last few years, I have started to appreciate intentionality and slowing down, appreciating the little things in life and being grateful for what I do have and the season I’m in. This has reflected into my photography and art as well. I am drawn to working with families who long to capture their current season. Each season of life is going to have ups and downs, give and take. Maybe this season isn’t the one where your home feels organized and clean all the time, but the table is always full of little hands painting, little hands playing with their spaghetti as they learn by both touch and taste.
How does slowing down manifest in my work? This means intentionality in the planning process, putting your family in a situation where we let your family be rather than trying to control every second and every pose. Letting the magic unfold naturally. This means intentionality in each time I click the shutter button on my camera, often times waiting for the right moment. Shooting film helps me to do this, with only 16 shots per roll of film, each one is precious. With each click of the shutter, I am choosing that moment, that composition and bringing each frame into focus manually. As I have begun photographing on film, I have also appreciated more subtle imperfections that make life and photographs beautiful.
Over time, my work has naturally shifted towards photographing and preserving the beauty in motherhood. Whether that is maternity photos during the quiet expecting weeks before welcoming a new baby, newborn photos as you celebrate your life and family forever being changed, or family photos capturing each season with your children as both you and your children grow together.
I have always loved looking through family photographs and hope to give families the same gift…
I grew up always clinging to the family photo albums and asking to look at them at the table after dinner – loving looking back and seeing memories that I didn’t remember myself or memories of my family, parents, grandparents in a different time. They tell a story and I think it helps us tell our own story.
So this is what I am here for. To help capture a small piece of your story. To have photos that are sitting on your coffee table that your children love to look through, that your grandchildren will one day look at. Photos to remember not just a place or a time, but an emotion.
