This is a very common question I get about booking timing! The short answer? Once you get into the start of your second trimester. But we’ll get into all the details about optimal timing.
Once you find out your pregnant and know your due date, please feel free to reach out and we can get a rough time frame planned for your maternity & newborn photos. I know the first trimester can be a time filled with unknowns or worries so do not stress about getting on the calendar quite that early. Just take it day by day and relax, enjoying the early days of your pregnancy. Once you enter the second trimester, send me an email so we can start dreaming up your photos and developing a vision for your session. The earlier we can get your dates on the calendar, the better so I can block out some time for you! Maternity photos have a little more flexibility, but newborn photos have a shorter window between 6-14 days where they are sleepiest, easily curl up into our poses and fall right back to sleep. As the baby gets older, they have longer awake periods and are a little trickier to have fall asleep as easily. Once you book with me, I make sure to block out time in the few weeks surrounding your due date.
If we book in advance and lock down that time frame, all you have to do is send me a text or an email when you are home from the hospital & we can pick a time. After booking, I’ll send you all my tips & tricks and we will do a consultation call to plan your sessions. This consultation call is where I get to know you and your family and we dream up what you want your images to look & feel like. Full of emotion and connection during this sweet, special season as you welcome a new life into the world and into your family. After our consultation call, I’ll build a custom vision board full of lots of beautiful and flattering options for you, your husband and newborn baby’s siblings so you can plan outfits ahead of time based on a color palette we discuss over the phone. Everything off your plate prior to giving birth and bringing home a newborn. You will have enough on your plate at that point. My goal is to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
You should get to enjoy the process!
Now on to maternity photos –
It is all about finding the right balance between your bump showing and you not feeling “too pregnant”. This typically falls around 28-34 weeks pregnant for most women, but again it is all about how YOU feel. This is another situation where booking early is beneficial. You will have plenty of time to find the perfect outfit for you, your significant other, and your other children who may be joining the session.
More benefits to booking early: you have time to decide if you want to get hair & make-up done before the session, we have location & weather flexibility, and the biggest benefit? More time = STRESS-FREE.
Please email me if there are any other questions I can answer for you about the process!
